Art Explora Festival at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art

From September 16, part of the Art Explora Festival program will take place at MMSU Rijeka and the City Museum of Rijeka.
The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is participating in the Art Explora Festival with several programs, conceived as a constellation of events. The opening of the “museum” section of the program in the Art Quarter will take place on Tuesday, September 16, from 6 PM, at the City Museum of Rijeka with the program Collections in Dialogue, and at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art with an installation by Tina Gverović and a film screening by Jumana Manna.
Tina Gverović: Rising Levels, 2025, sculpture/installation
MMSU, groundfloor
Rising Levels is s a new production by the renowned artist Tina Gverović, created specifically for MMSU and the Art Explora Festival. Inspired by the Endless Column by Constantin Brancusi, this sculpture represent totem-like object through which Gverović explores the interactions of materials, social practices, and intercultural contexts. It is built up as a stack of both found objects that find its place in the city, the port, with new prefabricated or bought objects.
Jumana Manna: Foragers, 2022, film
MMSU: groundfloor/ Kitchen space
In collaboration with TAP Temporary Art Platform from Beirut, a screening of the acclaimed film Foragers by the internationally recognized Palestinian artist Jumana Manna will be presented. Foragers depicts the dramas around the practice of foraging for wild edible plants in Palestine/Israel with wry humor and a meditative pace. Shot in the Golan Heights, the Galilee and Jerusalem, it employs fiction, documentary and archival footage to portray the impact of Israeli nature protection laws on these customs.
Collection in Dialogue: Lala Raščić and Renata Poljak from MMSU collection
City Museum of Rijeka
Collection in dialogue will bring two video works from the collection of MMSU The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka, Gorgo by Lala Raščić (2019-2021) and Yet Another Departure by Renata Poljak (2019) with the spaces and the permanent display of the Museum of the City of Rijeka, to shape new meanings and knowledge framing the contexts that surrounds them.
