A collaborative conversation between CHTO DELAT and REVENANT: Revivals of Empire—Nostalgia, Amnesia, Tribulation (ERC Consolidator Grant # 101002908)

One principal goal of the REVENANT research group—based at the University of Rijeka Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences—is to comprehend how former empires spark debate and inspire emotion today. Artistic practices and media, including film, dance, and plastic arts, are potent resources for rethinking imperial legacies. Through films, texts, and multimedia exhibitions, the artistic collective CHTO DELAT has interrogated dominant memories of bygone empires, especially the Romanov Empire and the Soviet Union.

REVENANT is honoured to welcome CHTO DELAT to Rijeka and to compare our academic and artistic perspective oncollective memory and imperial legacies. We will frame our discussion with clips from both REVENANT’s film, “The Revenant Project—Persons, Places, Things” (directed by Tomislav Žaja), and CHTO DELAT’s film “Palace Square 100 Years After – a Film-Lecture: 4 Seasons of Zombie.” Jeremy F. Walton, the group leader for REVENANT, will moderate an open-ended conversation among members of CHTO DELAT and REVENANT, including Dmitry Vilensky, Tsaplya Olga Egorova, Kevin Kenjar, and Lilit Dabagian.

Event will take place at 7:00 PM on Friday, 25 September 2026, at the Kamov Residency Apartment, Zagrebačka 21.
