Collection of Paintings

Collection manager: Iva Kelentrić, curator

The collection of paintings, as one of the oldest museum collections, was the core of the first permanent exhibition of the Museum. It covers paintings created in the time range from the second half of the 19th century to the recent artistic achievements. From the earliest portraits of academic realism through the anthology of Croatian modern and avant-garde movements of the first half of the 20th century, the lyrical and geometric abstractions, informs, new images, conceptual and postconceptual art, the Collection represents a cross section through the most important movements and appearances in national art. Manifestations held at the Museum in the 50’s and 90’s, the Rijeka Salon and the Young Biennale resulted in numerous acquisitions of significance for the reconstruction of key phenomena in the artistic creation of the second half of the 20th century.
