My proposal for ‘With the Collection’ exhibition is based on the idea of transforming the photo archive of works that are in the MMSU online collection into the sound form. The notion of archive carries the evidence of past, marks the time, cultural and historical context accumulating in its core the subject of memory and projections. By using the methodology of generating the sound waves from the digital images I am interested in representing the archive/collection of the museum in the shape that can be transmitted to the surrounding environment in movements on the molecular level. This sound intervention is an attempt to find an alternative way to mediate the art collection/archive providing its existence in another dimension.
For this online presentation, you can hear the fragment consisting of 59 images of artworks taken from the digital archive of the museum. The selection of the images was made randomly since this work is still in progress and my idea is to make a sound reproduction of the whole collection available in digital format. To the sounds from the digital images, as an essential tool for the conceptual approach I’ve used the program that operates on a similar principle to the legendary optoelectronic synthesizer ANS.

Gaisha Madanova
Gaisha Madanova (1987, Alma-Ata, Kazakh Soviet Socialistic Republic) has graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of Almaty College of Construction and Management in 2009 and later studied Visual Arts and Digital and Time-based Media at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. Her artistic practice involves different media and techniques (printmaking, objects, digital media, installations). Topics like watching and being watched, the body as an expression of the inner self or the strategies of transformations and displacement can be seen as links through the different series of her works. She is a founder of the art magazine ALUAN – EXHIBITION ON PAPER. Since 2012 Madanova is based in Germany.
