Final exhibition of the project “Culture of dopolavoro – Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow”.

14.10.–15.11.2019.

On Monday, October 14, at 7 pm, at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka, opens the final exhibition of the project “Culture of dopolavoro – Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow”.

Since August last year, the project brought together people over 54 years of age around the aim of producing art and enjoying culture.

The name of the project, implemented by the MMSU in partnership with the Creative Collective Kombinat and the Rijeka Center for Technical Culture with the financial support of the European Social Fund, refers to a term that in the past has meant organized leisure time for workers.

In the golden age of industrial production, attention was also paid to the cultural “education” of workers. it meant that reading rooms, film sections, exhibitions, plays etc. were organized as part of work collectives.

With the desire to offer ex-workers of Rijeka factories and shipyards – to people who are now over 54 years old – cultural and educational-social content modeled on the described programs, a project “Culture of dopolavoro” was conceived.

It’s final exhibition set in MMSU from October 14 to November 15 is the result of a 9-month work during which 102 participants met more than a hundred times, visited a total of 14 exhibitions across the country, participated in continuous workshops of performance, painting, photography, cultural criticism and exhibition guidings, and became acquainted with the principles of volunteering. They were assisted by menthors Bojan Hercigonja, Nika Rukavina, Matea Burmas, Sanjin Smajlović, Boris Ružić, Lucija Švob, Petra Mrš and Anita Ladišić.

The final exhibition of the project is divided into three sections: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. The section titled Yesterday will allow you to view interviews with former workers of the factory “Rikard Benčić”, read poems about the factory written by its former employee Marija Šenk and see the paintings by Albert Mihich, three of which were created within the art section of the former factory.

Part Today presents works from seven workshops (performance, painting, digital photography, art photography, cultural criticism, exhibition guides and ECoC ambassadors). 100 works of all workshop participants will be exhibited.

Part of Tomorrow refers to an open invitation to all persons over the age of 54 to leave their comments on this type of programme as wishes and ideas for similar programs on the bulletin board in the Museum space.

In addition to the exhibition, the result of the project is the project publication Notes on Leisure Time which will be presented at the opening of the exhibition.
